Install and update

This page helps you install Theseus Desktop, confirm that the local environment is ready, and get product updates later.

Before you start

  • Download the Windows x64 desktop installer from the public Theseus page.
  • The current public download is named Theseus-Setup-latest-x64.exe.
  • Git for Windows is optional. It is required only for importing a project from Git or using version-control features in the editor. Without Git, you can still create, open, and edit a local App.

Downloading, installing, and using local features does not require a sign-in. When you need online services such as Qixin AI or Portal, see Qixin account and online services.

Install and start

  1. Run the downloaded Theseus-Setup-latest-x64.exe.
  2. Complete the installation wizard.
  3. Start Theseus.
  4. Wait for App Hub to appear. The first start prepares the local editing and runtime environment, so it may take longer than later starts.

If the computer has an older Theseus release that cannot update directly, uninstall it before running the current installer. Uninstalling preserves user projects by default, but confirm that important projects are committed to Git or backed up first.

Complete the first checks

  1. In App Hub, confirm that the sidebar shows New project, Open project, Import project, and Learn.
  2. Open System Settings → Runtime, select the local Runtime target, and confirm that it is reachable.
  3. Open System Settings → General → About Theseus and confirm that the current version and update channel are visible.
  4. Return to App Hub.

The first checks pass when:

  • App Hub and System Settings both open normally.
  • The local Runtime target is reachable.
  • No startup error remains on screen and blocks normal work.

If App Hub does not appear or the local target repeatedly becomes unreachable, see Startup and connection.

Update Theseus

Theseus Desktop uses the stable update channel by default. Open System Settings → General → About Theseus to check for updates and view download progress. When a new version is ready, select Restart and Update. An update failure does not block Desktop startup; retry after the network recovers.

Switch to the preview update channel only when you intentionally need early access to test or evaluate new features. The first switch requires a risk confirmation, and the channel cannot change while an update is being checked or downloaded. Switching back to stable does not install an older version automatically; update again when a later stable version becomes available.

Next step

Read App Hub and editor tour, then complete the local quickstart. To take over an existing project, see Create, open, import, and manage recent projects.
